Many of Vargas Llosa's works are influenced by the writer's perception of Peruvian society and his own experiences as Peru, but has increasingly addressed issues from around the world. He has lived in Europe (including Spain, Britain, Switzerland and France) most of the time since 1958, when he began his literary career, so his work is seen also some European influence.
