After completing MBBS from the University College of Medical Sciences and Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, under University of Delhi, he pursued MD in Psychiatry from the prestigious Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS, Delhi University). Thereafter, he underwent higher training in Psychiatry at the University of Michigan, USA.
