Chimeric antigen receptors (CARs), also known as chimeric T cell receptors, chimeric immunoreceptors or artificial T cell receptors, enable immune effector cells (usually T cells or NK cells) to recognize target cells with corresponding antigen and exercise their cytotoxic activity.
