The life cycle of tapeworms is easy within the sense that there are not any asexual phases as in other flatworms, but sophisticated in that a minimum of one intermediate host is required in addition to the definitive host. This life cycle pattern has been an important criterion for assessing evolution amongst Platyhelminthes.
